Summary: Not very good
Comment: The problem I'm having with this item is that there is no tolerance % for the set desired humidity level. What I mean is, if I set it to 40% humidity, it turns on at 39% and turns off at 40%. What ends up happening is it goes on for 2 minutes, then goes off for 2 minutes, all night long! It should have something more of a tolerance, like 3-5%, so that is goes on at 35 and shuts off at 45, so that it's not going on and off constantly.

Summary: Chemical odor, terrible with hard water.
Comment: With an ultrasonic humidifier, *everything* present in the water will be in the mist: chemicals, microbes, minerals, etc.. After running the unit on filtered hard tap water for only 6 hours, I had a fine white powder coating on the outside of the humidifier tank and LCD/button area. This powder is the minerals in the water being ejected and turned to dust. I can't really blame the manufacturer for this - it's the nature of this type of humidifier, and they suggest using distilled water if you have hard water. But who wants to pay for a gallon of distilled water a day? The second problem I had was a chemical odor in the mist, which also appeared to be in the tank when I took it off - a sort of new plastic smell. This was the real deal breaker. I'm not sure if the odor was the plastic tank, chemicals present in the water (chlorine, etc.), both, or a chemical reaction, but the odor was almost sickening and filled the room. I returned the unit and will now explore other types of humidifiers.

Summary: digital functions are just a gimmick
Comment: My general feeling about household electronics is that, the more gadgets and whistles are on them, the quicker they break. Despite this belief, I thought I'd give this humidifier a try. Sure enough, the digital panel function COMPLETELY died on me about three days later; the On/Off button works, but other than that, all the other buttons (ion feature, humidity controls, temperature set, up/down button) are dead. I debated whether to return it or not, but decided to keep it for this reason only: when the buttons "died", I was fortunate that the "mist blow" was set on the highest level, so I get a good amount of moisture output (about 1/3 gallon of distilled water a night for a room about 400 sq ft). I've basically decided that 90% of the humidifers (under $150) on the market are junk, so for the price I paid ($38) for this one, I'll just have to settle if it does what a humidifier is supposed to do, which is to add a sufficient amount of moisture to the air. I sure miss the good ol' days of dependable German and Japanese engineering and manufacturing (this one's made in China, of course).

Summary: WHY DO HUMIDIFIERS HAVE TO BE SO SAD
Comment: I did a lot of research before I purchased this humidifier. I read tons of reviews on all sorts of humidifiers. I have to say when this humidifier worked (which was one day) it worked well. Below I have listed the chain of events which lead to my decision to return this product.
1. Upon receiving the box and when I unpacked the item I noticed there was a flaw at the edge of the LCD and the blue plastic. At which time I notified customer help and stated I could live with the flaw as long as it did not affect how the product preformed. First night it ran great.
2. The second night the nightlight started having longer periods of not working in between the color change and erratically flickered as if it had a loose connection; so I turned the nightlight off. The machine still produced what seemed to be the correct humidity according to the LCD.
3. The third night the LCD was not working correctly and only parts of the numbers were displayed which made it hard to see if the ionizer was off or on as well as what mode the machine was in. At that time I felt the machine was not safe to run while sleeping and I opted to turn it off.
4. The machine would not turn off now and I was too afraid to unplug it because I felt the only vehicle for the electrical functioning was possibly the water so all night every hour or so I tried to turn it off. At around 4:00 am I turned the machine off.
5. Lastly in the morning when I went to empty the humidifier there were several drops of water on the chair and droplets hanging from the vent on the bottom of the unit.
All of the problems I experienced with this ultrasonic humidifier are design flaws from what I see and I am sad to have to return it. Why is finding a humidifier that works such a game of luck. From all the reviews and all the humidifier options and price considerations nothing can guarantee a safe functional humidifier.
