McKenzie® Cervical Roll Neck Support Review Most bed pillows don't support the head and the neck. The Original McKenzie® Cervical Roll provides necessary support to the cervical structures and maintains a natural curve of the cervical spine while one sleeps on the side or back. If you suffer from frequent episodes of neck pain; referred pain in the shoulders; nighttime neck problems; or morning pain or stiffness in the neck, your sleeping position may be at fault. Placed between a pillow and the pillowcase, the cervical roll is designed to work with most conventional pillows. It is affordable and portable, and it is not hot and uncomfortable or snug around the neck like a cervical night collar. Made of low density foam with a removable and washable cotton/polyester cover. Size is 3 1/2" in diameter x 20" long. The roll must be used with a very soft pillow (ie; feathers. According to Dr. McKenzie molded rubber or foam pillows should never be used if you have neck problems. This item cannot be returned if the plastic seal is broken.

McKenzie® Cervical Roll Neck Support Reviews and Testimonials
Customer Rating: Summary: Very uncomfortable for me Comment: I am surprised no one else had issues with this product. I just couldn't sleep on this, it felt too large for my neck. I ended up buying a different pillow that I am much happier with, and this got exiled to the closet.
Customer Rating: Summary: My Search for a Pillow Is Over! Comment: I have a collection of pillows the sandman would envy. I had given up on ever finding a pillow that improved my sleep and left my neck and shoulders feeling rested in the morning. I awoke with a headache most mornings. A physical therapist recommended Robin McKenzie's book, Treat Your Own Neck, and the cervical neck roll.
As another reviewer reported, the first three mornings with the neck roll were hell. The fourth morning, though, I awoke feeling rested and pain free. I'm now sleeping better than I have in years; my neck and shoulders are much better. I almost never awake with a headache.
I highly recommend the neck roll and Robin McKenzie's book.
Customer Rating: Summary: Helpful to make a good pilow better! Comment: I like this item and have used it for about 2 months. First time I lay down on it I could tell it would help. It's supportive enough to promote the neck curve, and not so stiff to cause numbness.
The catch for me is that this item would be ideal for someone who sleeps on the back, whereas I sleep on my side.
I've been able to figure out some good ways to use this for a side-sleeper, but I also lay on my back for a while before I go to sleep, and do the excersises from the related book (Treat Your Own Neck -- McKenzie)
Customer Rating: Summary: for better sleep Comment: On the advice of a Physical Therapist, I slept with a rolled up towel under my neck. After many months, I was dubious it was doing any good. I got the cervical neck roll support hoping it might work better, and I'm pleased to say it does!
First 3-5 nights were a bit uncomfortable (ended up tossing it at some point during my sleep). Since then, most mornings I wake up with the pillow in-place and I feel much less sore and tight in my neck and even areas of upper back feel less tense. I am a smaller person and the roll works perfectly with a low-fill down pillow.
Some mornings I do find I've moved it out during the night, but for however many hours I slept with it in-place the cervical roll still has lessened my muscle stiffness and tension significantly. The longer I've used the roll, the lighter and more relaxed my neck feels.
With the additional cervical support, it seems my sleep is deeper and more restful.
Update (12/26/08)_______________________________________
I can't believe I used to go without this support cushion. Just one night without this support roll and I tossed and turned for hours. Finally, I tried to substitute a rolled up towel, it helped and I got to sleep. When I woke up, I was extremely sore and tense throughout my neck and back. The pain and tension lasted the next two days as a result of one night without. Wow! For me, the Cervical roll neck support is the difference between poor sleep with muscle pain afterwards, or deep refreshing sleep with soothed neck and back muscles.
Customer Rating: Summary: McKenzie Cervical Neck Roll Support Comment: I would wake up with neck pain through the night. After 3-days I no longer had neck pain. It took me a week to get use to the roll, but I now get a full nights rest and my neck pain has not returned. My Physical Therapist recommends the Neck Roll and practices some of the techniques in McKenzie's book.
